Dramaturgy
As a dramaturg, I believe that my role is to make the artist's vision come alive, whether that means working with a playwright to bring their vision from their brain to the page and then the stage, or working with a director to create a fully realized new work or a well researched production. It is all about bringing your story to life.
I have worked as a dramaturg on a wide variety of productions, from classical theater to new work to dance, but I have a particular specialization in Shakespearean dramaturgy and new and devised work. As a disabled dramaturg, I have also brought my research and lived experience to productions wrestling with plays that invoke and involve disability.
Recent projects include:
Manahatta at Yale Rep, written by Mary Kathryn Nagle and directed by Laurie Woolery
The Van Gogh Cafe, adapted by Madeline and Emily Sorenson from the book by Cynthia Rylant and directed by Madeline and Emily Sorenson
I Will Get Sick at Yale School of Drama, written by Noah Diaz and directed by Kat Yen
New Haven Play Project at Long Wharf Theatre, written by New Haven community members and directed by Elizabeth Nearing
Theater of All Possibilities at Swarthmore College, written by the ensemble and directed by Elizabeth Stevens
Madeline graduated from the Yale School of Drama with an MFA in Dramaturgy and Dramatic Criticism in 2020. She completed her qualifying exams in Disability and Theater and Community-Based Performance.
Although I believe all rates can and should be negotiated depending on the budget, scope, and nature of the project, I also believe in being upfront about my worth and transparent with my typical rates.
My rates vary from $30-50/hour for dramaturgy consultation. I am also happy to work on a per project fee structure. At times I am able to offer my services on a barter basis with other disabled artists, particular BIPOC and queer artists.
If you are interested in working with me, please reach out. I will do my best to find a way to work with you, regardless of your budget. And if I’m not the right fit for you, I would love to help you find someone who is.
